Older Works
These are older works that I have done, but also the progression of how my artistic career started and the reasons it evolved the way it did.
Explanations are provided to give a general overview of that time in my life and how my different experiences impacted my artwork.
Notan Designs
Hand-Cut and Painted Notan designs.
“Notan” in Japanese is literally translated to “the combination of light and dark”. It is a technique in art where the artist takes a 4″ x 4″ black piece of cardboard (or designs it and uses other media to achieve the same goal), and does a design on the cardboard that is cut out. The original black square of cardboard is then used as the center piece to the work, and the cut out pieces are flipped on each of the 4 sides of the center, creating a completely different design.
These are my notan designs, the black and white ones are hand cut paper, and the colored ones are done the same way but painted on canvas with acrylic.
Abstract works
Abstract works from 2008 until present.
Ranging from assignments for old class to leisure paintings, this is an evolution in my artistic path that started with more graffiti like letter pieces, and later evolved into bright and colorful works that you see here.
Graffiti and Letters
This was what began my artistic career as a whole. I began being interested in graffiti after learning about it, and as someone who grew up in a suburb, I really didn’t see much of it. Working with pen and paper I began getting into letters and the techniques used in graffiti. This began my journey into abstraction because as I did more work, the more I experimented with new things and techniques that I eventually left the letters out.
