Six of crows event poster

This poster was completed as a study of Olly Moss's work. He’s best known for his reimagined movie and pop culture posters for fandoms like Star Wars and Harry Potter. You can feel his love for the fandoms within each work, and as someone who also loves these stories that's something I really appreciate. He often experiments with working with negative space, creating secondary images within a primary silhouette. I especially was drawn to his playful usage of figure-ground reversals. I’ve always found these difficult to come up with, but so rewarding when applied. So seeing his incorporation of the principal in his designs is so inspiring to see. For my project I wanted to create a poster referencing a fandom that I really loved, and I chose my favorite book “Six of Crows” by Leigh Bardugo. It’s the first book in a fantasy duology that follows criminal prodigy Kaz Breaker as he assembles a crew of six dangerous outcasts in the city of Ketterdam for an impossible heist.
